I want to talk a little bit about the future.
I thought it was something that would happen around 2040, but it's approaching so quickly that it could become a reality by around 2025.
With advances in AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology, we can now rely on AI to do everything that can be done on a computer.
In fact, music, digital art, and novels can be created using AI, and in everyday life, when you want to research something, discuss a solution, or write a paper, answers can be derived as if you were having a conversation using software such as Chat GPT.
As the AI learns through repetition, it can arrive at answers more accurately and quickly, and its progress has been faster than expected.
What inspired me to pursue a career in architecture was the unique buildings and landscape of Hong Kong, influenced by Norman Foster's Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and I.M. Pei's Bank of China.
What attracted me to architecture was that there was something energetic about it, and even though I was young, I could see that architecture was a fusion of engineering, art, and people.
The fusion of these elements, or in Japanese, harmonious architecture, is beautiful.
Unfortunately, the future is not far off when AI will surpass the human brain by learning about this engineering and art.
AI's learning speed is particularly fast in the field of engineering, and in the future, anyone will be able to instantly obtain information and answers on topics such as structural engineering, environmental engineering, and regulations that appear on the architect's exam. In the extreme, pure architectural ability will no longer be necessary.
You might think this is hopeless, but I'm not particularly interested in that and I'll just continue to do what I have to do.
He calls himself an "archi-director" rather than an architect because he believes that architecture has many possibilities, that it can bring joy to creating things together with creators, producers, and clients, and that it can provide excitement that can only be understood by creating it.
I enjoy the unexpected, I challenge myself to try new materials in new places, and I believe I am able to freely manipulate the harmony between engineering and art like an opera conductor.
Let's create rich architecture, interiors, and furniture that even surpass AI.
Because only humans can freely imagine the future.
